The Slovak band Peter & The Rowers made this year's awards their own, turning 8 nominations into 6 wins. Since they were nominated twice in two categories, they won all they possibly could. Not only did they win the European Artist of the Year award, but also the prestigious international Artist of the Year award. Peter & The Rowers also scored in the major categories Song of the Year ("I'm Leavin'"), Group/Band of the Year, ECMA Future Star Award and ECMA European Song of the Year ("I'm Leavin'"). Peter is a true testament of a hero." Peter Dula was born in Kosice, Slovakia in 1981. As a determined and talented young hockey player, he came to Boston in 1999 to play for a junior league, on a path to try out for the NHL. His plans suddenly changed when he was diagnosed with cancer (Hodgkin's Lymphoma). He was successfully treated in Boston over 6 months, and then returned home to Slovakia. Peter & The Rowers are in the Leon Art studio putting finishing touches on a new single that will be called " I'm Leavin' ". It's a song written in a memory of the band member Juraj Straka who died last year at the age of 53. He dedicated all his life to country music and to this band. He was the original member and founder of The Rowers since 1970. They sang this song in Slovak version (Ja Pojdem Sam) at his funeral.

Veslari won the price for the best band at the most prestigious country festival in Czech republic Stodola Michala Tucneho. This festival is a tribute to Michal Tucny, a Czech country music legend. The price was given to the band at the main stage in front of a crowd of over 10 000 people, than they "countryfied" the stage with their rocking performance.
